FUSE DEVICE FOR MORTAR SHELL

PURPOSE: A fuse for a mortar shell is provided to improve safety by minimizing mechanical energy in a spring at safety position of the fuse with installing the biased spring in the fuse. CONSTITUTION: A fuse apparatus(14) of a mortar shell(10) is converted from a safe position to an armed position by a spring(74). A fan wheel is mounted in the mortar shell to incline the spring. A safety apparatus housing(16) is composed of first and second charge pins(76,78) and a charge shaft(54). A safety plate member(84) is placed between a fan wheel shaft(24) and the second charge pin. A wedge slot(26) is formed in the end of the fan wheel shaft, and a wedge coupling(28) is protruded in the slot. A worm(30) is supported with a mounting trunnion, and an entrainment member(34) is supported in a sleeve(38). An impeller is rotated with forming air flow by the mortar shell, and the rotational force is transmitted to the spring to store energy. The safety is improved with storing little energy in the spring at the safe position.
