An internally screw-threaded plastics stopper 5 for a bottle has, between the inner end of its thread 9 and its top 6, a pair of pressure ribs 11, 11a which grip frictionally around the mouth 2 of the bottle 1 when the stopper is screwed home, to prevent accidental loosening and also to push radially inwards on the mouth of the neck. Thus, radially outward pressure of a part cone-shaped hollow seal 12 integral with 'the .stopper 5, tending to burst the mouth 2 of the bottle neck, is balanced by the inwards pressure of the ribs 11, 11a. The rib 11 is formed as a continuation of the screw thread 9, and the rib 11a is positioned between the final convolution of the thread and the rib 11. In a modification, the hollow seal 12 is re. placed by an integral projecting ring (7), Fig. 1 (not shown), which abuts against the end face (2) of the bottle mouth. |
