Compressed air or other gas, e.g., nitrogen or a rare gas, is supplied through a connector 19. A corona discharge device 21 has a plurality of needle electrodes 23 spaced along a rod 22 adjustably mounted in a slot (25, Fig. 2, not shown) with respect to a slot (16). An earthed voltage source 28 which may be A. C. or D. C. is connected to rod (22, Fig. 2, not shown) and to lips (15) or conducting strips (32, Fig. 3, not shown) through a resistor (31) in each case. The apparatus may be utilized for removing electrostatic charges from film prior to entering a contact printer or enlarger, for altering the electrostatic charge on a web, or for removing particulate matter therefrom.
