PURPOSE: To provide a power source which does not require an additional insulating barrier for supplying on/off control information to an un-insulated SNPS control circuit from an insulated microprocessor, when a continuous mode and a burst mode are switched over. CONSTITUTION: This power source operates by a run mode operation, and burst mode operation of a stand-by mode. When a user sends out a power-on request command, an on/off control signal is supplied to an input terminal of the microprocessor. The microprocessor monitors the completion time of the dead time interval of a burst mode cycle, and generates a synchronous control signal for turning a switch on. The switch is turned on just after the completion of the dead time interval. The turned-on switch connects a run mode load to the filter capacitor of the power source.
