PURPOSE: A gas exchange system and its operating method is provided to prevent damage of pilot valve and control valve by eliminating the risk of contamination of hydraulic system. CONSTITUTION: A gas exchange system comprises a gas exchange valve(20) started by oil pressure, and a first fluid system(30) of an operating medium connected to the gas exchange valve for starting the gas exchange valve, a second fluid system(40) of a hydraulic medium, a main control valve(50) provided in the second fluid system for starting the gas exchange valve, and a medium separator(70) disposed between the main control valve and the gas exchange valve and connected to the first fluid system at one side and to the second fluid system at the other side.
