1,159,226. Shampoos. COLGATE PALMOLIVE CO. 31 March, 1967 [1 April, 1966; 17 June, 1966], No. 14769/67. Heading C5D. Hair conditioning shampoos comprise: (a) at least one alkyl amine oxide surfactant, (b) optionally an amphoteric surfactant, (c) a cationic surfactant and (d) water and have a pH in the range 4À5 to 9À6. The component (b) may be replaced by an alkyl amine oxide having at least 18 carbons in one of the alkyl groups. Many examples of agents under headings (b) and (c) are given and the amine oxide is a detergent in which one of the alkyl groups contains on average from 10 to 20 carbons. The examples specify the use of mixtures of amine oxides. Viscosity-adjusting ingredients may be added, e.g., fatty acid amides, water-soluble solvents, e.g. polyhydric alcohols or ethoxylated polypropylene glycol or alkyl ethers of such glycols. Water-soluble protein, e.g. hydrolysed collagen may also be present.
