PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutter mechanism for printer in which the size, weight and cost can be reduced by sharing a motor as a drive source. SOLUTION: In a printer comprising a print means (thermal line printer TP) for printing on a recording sheet, and a drive means (motor M) for a recording sheet carrying mechanism (platen roller 10), the cutter mechanism cuts the recording sheet being carried through the print means to the outside of the printer by moving a cutter (round cutter 14) in the widthwise direction of the recording sheet. The drive means comprises a revesible motor (stepping motor M) having an intermittent coupling mechanism (one-way clutches C1, C29) for transmitting a driving force to the recording sheet carrying mechanism during forward rotation and transmitting a driving force to the cutter moving means during reverse rotation.
