PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a liquid crystalline polymer comprising lowering reaction temperature and/or raise reaction rate to produce an anisotropic melt phase forming polymer. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a liquid crystalline polymer uses a combination of a potassium catalyst and a cobalt promoter in order to raise reaction rate of the melt polymerization and/or lower reaction temperature to produce an anisotropic melt phase forming polymer derived from p- hydroxy benzoic acid, 6-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid, an aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid, an aromatic diol (at least a part of which is resorcinol), and at least one kind of aromatic dicarboxylic acids.
