PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To establish a method for securely producing a hot dip galvanized steel sheet excellent in surface appearance (particularly, fingerprint resistance) and corrosion resistance. SOLUTION: At the time of producing a plated steel sheet in which a chromate film is deposited on a hot dip galvanized steel sheet, the surface of a hot dip galvanized steel sheet is coated with a chromate treating solution containing chromic acid in which the ratio of [Cr3+/total Cr] is 0 to 0.4 and SiO2 of 0.5 to 3.0 mass part to 1 mass part by the value expressed in terms of CrO3 of the total Cr in the chromic acid, and, drying is performed to obtain the hot dip galvanized steel sheet excellent in surface appearance (fingerprint resistance) and corrosion resistance.
