The invention relates to a waxless composition for cleaning and polishing acrylic and glass surfaces, which consists of a water-in-oil emulsion comprising water, naphtha mineral spirits, an abrasive, an anti-static agent, a thickening agent, dimethoxysilyl- dimethylamino-ethylaminopropyl siloxane, an aminofunctional siloxane capable of reacting with the dimethoxysilyl-dimethylamino-ethylaminopropyl siloxane to form a cross-linked siloxane film and at least one emulsifying agent having hydrophilic functional groups. The dimethoxysilyl-dimethylamino-ethylaminopropyl siloxane and aminofunctional siloxane are sufficiently diluted to prevent reaction with one another in the emulsion so that when the composition is applied to an acrylic or glass surface and the water evaporates, the aminofunctional siloxane reacts with the dimethoxysilyl-dimethylamino- ethylaminopropyl siloxane to form the cross-linked siloxane film. Such a film imparts to the surface a uniform high gloss and water repellency, and efficiently protects the surface against wear and tear caused by dust, cigarette smoke and fingerprints.
