A composition comprises a multicellular plastic, a reinforcing layer of fibrous, moulded, or extruded material therein or thereon and bitumen impregnated therein to fill at least 30% of the cellular space of the plastic. The bitumen may preferably occupy at least 50% of the free space of the cells and represent at least 90% by weight of the combined weight of the bitumen and the foamed plastic. The plastic foam may be of a polyurethane, a polyvinyl aromatic or a polyvinyl halide or acetate. The reinforcing material may be in the form of a sheet of woven fibres or a sheet of pressed fibres, for example a sheet of woven nylon yarn. It may be adhered to either or both of the surfaces of the foam or may be positioned internally within the sheet of foam.</p> |
