<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a memory capacity required for wavelet transformation when an image is compressed by using the wavelet transformation. SOLUTION: This device is provided with an input means for inputting same image data to be an encoding object a plurality of times, a first converting means for frequency-converting N-th time image data which is inputted from the input means in a first-dimensional direction to obtain a first frequency component, a second converting means for frequency-converting M-th time picture data (M>N) inputted form the input means in the first-dimensional direction to obtain a second frequency component, a storing means for selectively storing one of the first and the second frequency components and a second converting means for frequency-converting the first or the second frequency component stored in the storing means, in a first-dimensional direction which is different from that of the first converting means.</p> |
