PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device capable of easily confirming the operating state of a discharge lamp being a light source. SOLUTION: A discharge lamp 4 is pseudo-constant power driven by a pseudo-constant power control circuit 1. A power quantity indicating means 10 converts power quantity which is consumed in the discharge lamp 4 into a voltage to turn LEDs(light emitting doides) 81 to 8n on. Thus, the means 10 indicates power quantity being consumed in the lamp 4 absolutely or relatively. As a result, whether the lamp 4 has reached a stable operation or not can be easily discriminated by lighting states of the LEDs 81 to 8n.
