1,165,916. Salts of fluorinated carbonyl compounds. ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP. 3 0 Sept., 1966 [1 Oct., 1965], No. 49118/68. Divided out of 1,165,912. Heading C2C. Salts of the general formula wherein each of R and R<SP>1</SP> represents a fluorine atom of a perhaloalkyl radical in which each of the halogen atoms is F or Cl and in which at least one fluorine atom is attached to each carbon atom, and M represents Ag, K, Rb, Cs or a tetraalkylammonium ion, are prepared by reacting a carbonyl compound R-CO-R<SP>1</SP> with a fluoride MF under anhydrous conditions in the absence of other substances which react with the the carbonyl compound, the fluoride MF or the organic salt. The salts in which M is a tetraalkylammonium ion may also be prepared from the potassium salts by reaction with atetraalkylammonium chloride or perchlorate. The invention also comprises salts of the above general formula in which R and R<SP>1</SP> are each perhaloalkyl radicals as defined above containing 1 to 8 carbon atoms. 2 - Trifluoramethyl - perfluoropentan - 3 - one is prepared by reacting perfluoropropylene with perfluoropropionyl fluoride in acetonitrile using caesium fluoride as catalyst. Perfluorooctanoyl fluoride is prepared by reacting the corresponding acid chloride with potassium fluoride in acetonitrile.
