PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for switching power systems that enables, if a power system is disturbed, changing over to another power system, without power interrupt and to minimize loss produced during energization and thus significantly reducing the operating cost. SOLUTION: When power supply to a load 5 connected with a connecting point among first and second mechanical bypass switches 10 and 12 connected with first and second power systems 1 and 2, respectively, and a semiconductor switch 8 parallel-connected with the second bypass switch 12 is changed from the first power system to the second power system, the first bypass switch 10 is opened and further the semiconductor switch 8 is brought into conduction, to shunt the current of the first bypass switch 10 to the semiconductor switch 8. Thereafter, the second bypass switch 12 is closed to change power supply to the load 5 over to the second power system 2. |
