The kinematics of the hood locking part (2) pass through a dead center point on changing from lock to release settings, using a baseplate (5) slotted guide link to impose a self-setting movement on the locking pawl (4) so it engages its counterpart in the locking condition. The pawl is hinged to the baseplate and similarly hinge-bolted to a pusher lever (7) itself connected via reverser lever (8) to its actuator (3). Thus, in the locking position, the lever hinge joint and the reverser lever (8) both overshoot the line connecting lever hinge bolt, pawl and reverser lever hinge and baseplate.
