PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical absolute value encoder avoiding the increase in size and cost and realizing the detection of high accuracy and high resolution. SOLUTION: A light receiving element 700 detects irradiation light emitted from a LED 6 through a truck 500a for detection consisting of an M-series slit array, a first interpolation multiplication slit array, and a second interpolation multiplication slit array. Detection signals are outputted from light receiving cell array groups A and B for the M-series of the light receiving element 700, light receiving cell array groups A' and B' for the first interpolation multiplication, and light receiving cell array groups A" and B" for the second interpolation multiplication. A CPU 100 on a printed board 8 obtains absolute position information by combining these detection signals.
