PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a stainless steel strip having the improved characteristics that the mechanical working of the stainless steel strip is made considerably easier than heretofore, that the working characteristics are improved as well and that the life of tools is prolonged. SOLUTION: The stainless steel is subjected to a bright annealing treatment then to an electrochemical treatment at current density below 200 A/dm2. The electrochemical treatment is executed in an electrolyte containing sulfate (SO42-). Na2SO4 is used as the electrolyte and the treatment is executed within a range of pH 4 to 12, more desirably at about pH 7, in a range of 30 to 95 deg.C electrolyte temp., more desirably at 85 deg.C.
