PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle steering device capable of automatically setting a control gain such that excellent response can be secured at any time to eliminate vast numbers of man-hours for tuning in the case of control of auxiliary steering force according to a change of steering force. SOLUTION: In this steering device, a controller 15 controls an auxiliary steering force generating actuator M such that the auxiliary steering force changes according to the change of the steering force of a steering wheel H. Predetermined relation among a hysteresis degree in a change of a steering angle to the change of the steering force, a steering characteristic value corresponding to a steering period of the steering wheel H, and a control gain of the actuator M by the controller 15 is stored. A control gain value is calculated from a found hysteresis degree, a found steering characteristic value and the stored relation. By setting the control gain to the calculated control gain value, the response of the change of the auxiliary steering force to the change of the steering force is compensated.
