PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure diagnostic system for an engine capable of precisely diagnose a cause of a failure in a short time even when the engine is stopped. SOLUTION: Past operating data of the engine is stored in an EEPROM (electrically erasable programmable read-only memory) 32 of an ECU(electronic control unit) 25, and the operating data stored are taken out and displayed on a monitor of a personal computer 33, followed by estimating the cause of the failure of the engine based on the operating data. An operating condition before engine stop can be grasped by taking out the past operating data stored and displaying them on the monitor of the personal computer 33, and the cause of the failure of the engine can be precisely estimated from the operating condition in a short time to appropriately and rapidly take measures.
