PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing process for a vinyl aromatic polymer achieving the following: (i) a vinyl aromatic polymer having excellent homogeneity in composition and a narrow molecular weight distribution is obtained, (ii) the initiator is completely consumed when the product is discharged from the reactor, (iii) the process enables polymerization by easy control under conditions of extremely low stability and gelling effect, (iv) the production of a phenyl tetralin-type oligomer is suppressed at the conversion of larger than 50% based on the starting monomer, and (v) the distribution of the reaction heat is optimized. SOLUTION: This continuous mass production process for a vinyl aromatic polymer comprises the supply of a reaction mixture containing at least one kind of a vinyl aromatic monomer into at least one tubular reactor of a PFR type and the operation at a recycling ratio of less than 4 in terms of recycling flow rate/supply flow rate.
