The invention provides isolated polynucleotides encoding polypeptides having 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase (OGG) activity. The present invention provides methods and compositions relating to expressing OGG in plants in order to improve transformation efficiency, homologous recombination and/or targeted gene modifications.
