1,171,956. Reactive dyestuffs. SANDOZ Ltd. 10 March, 1967 [28 March, 1966], No. 11474/67. Heading C4P. The invention comprises reactive dyes of general formula wherein A is a C 2 -C 3 alkylene radical and may be substituted by an hydroxyl group, X is a radical containing at least one substituent which reacts with a fibre substrate to form a covalent bond, and Z is H, Cl, Br, C 1 -C 5 alkyl or COOH. Preferably X is a reactive acyl radical or a mono- or dihalotriazinyl or di or trihalopyrimidyl radical. They are prepared by reacting one mole of 2-amino-5-hydroxynaphthalene-7-sulphonic acid with at least one mole of a reactive group containing acylating agent and coupling in ortho position to the 5-OH group with one mole of a diazo compound of general formula wherein Y is H or SO 3 H, followed by reaction with a sulphating agent when Y is H, the above acylation and coupling reactions being carried out in either order. Alternatively a 2-acylamino - 5 - hydroxynaphthalene - 7 - sulphonic acid may be coupled with the diazo compound, the non-reactive acyl group hydrolysed to amino in acid or alkaline conditions, acylating the amino group to introduce the fibre reactive group and when Y is H sulphating the dye at any stage during the replacement of the non- reactive 2-acyl group by radical X. Hydrolysis of the non-reactive acyl group after sulphation is carried out in alkaline conditions. The dyes may be after-treated with ammonia to convert dihalotriazine radicals to monohaloamino triazine radicals. The dyes are used to dye leather, wool, silk, synthetic polyamides, cotton, linen, hemp, viscose and cuprammonium rayons and blends scarlet. |
