[Also in Division G2] At the beginning of a copying cycle, rollers 82, 84 feed a copy sheet through charging and exposure stations 86, 56 and at the end of the cycle, rollers 122 fed another sheet from a stack 62 into the nip of rollers 82, 84 ready for the next cycle; a clutch lever 138 selectively applying drive to these two sets of rollers. A drive chain (40, Fig. 2, not shown) continuously drives other feed rollers 18, 20, 32, 34, 88, 90, 98, 100, 106, 108 and a sprocket 132 on the lever 138. Sprocket 138 drives gears 150, 152 also on lever 138. An original, fed in via a plate 16, triggers a switch 192 energizing a solenoid 146 which pivots lever 138 anticlockwise against a spring (142). This brings gear 152 into engagement with gear teeth on roller 84 to feed a copy sheet. When the switch is released by the trailing edge of the original, the solenoid 146 is de-energized, and the lever 138, returned by the spring (142) to engage gear 152 with gear 158, which is mutilated so that it is only driven through one revolution, this being sufficient to drive rollers 120, through gear 124, to position another sheet at rollers 82, 84. Gear 158 is stopped by engagement of a shaft 170 thereof with lever 138. When lever 138 moves to drive roller 84 at the beginning of the next cycle, a spring pressed cam follower (182), engaging a recessed portion 177 (Fig. 3) of gear 158, rotates it slightly to move away the mutilated part. Another shaft (202, Fig. 4, not shown) on gear 158 switches the exposure lamp 42 and charger 86 on and off. Mirrors 46, 54 and lenses 48, 50 (with reflecting surface 52) comprise the optical system. A further switch 196, in parallel with switch 192, is actuated by the copy paper to ensure a full cycle if a short original is used. |
