A voltage regulator has an input terminal (20), an output terminal (24), a first transistor (16) connecting the input terminal to an intermediate terminal (22), a second transistor (42) connecting the intermediate terminal to ground, a controller (18) that drives the first and second transistors, and a filter (26) disposed between the input terminal and the output terminal to provide a substantially DC voltage at the output terminal. The controller drives two transistors types having different gate oxide layer thicknesses.
