A method and system for an information collector to collect information from information suppliers and provide an incentive for the information suppliers to provide the information is described. The method and system are suitable for gathering many types of information, and are particularly useful for gathering information that increases in value over time or at least has the potential to increasing in value over time. The method of the invention, which is typically implemented using a server computer system and a client computer system, entails rewarding each information supplier with an ownership share in value created by or associated with the information provided by the aggregate of information suppliers.
