SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR PROVIDING BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY OF RADIO LINK PROTOCOL IN RADIO NETWORK

PURPOSE: A system and method for providing a backward compatibility of a radio link protocol in a radio network are provided to remove difficulty in a traffic channel set-up due to a version difference by comparing a radio link protocol version between base stations which us different radio link protocol versions and leveling up or down the radio link protocol version of the base stations. CONSTITUTION: A base station transceiver controller(225) controls a generation operation of a base station transceiver(220) and includes a memory for executing an operation program for communicating with a base station controller(210). A channel controller(235) includes a plurality of channel elements containing a channel element(240) and performs a bi-directional communication of a forward channel and a reverse channel. A transceiver interface(245) transmits bi-directional channel signals between the channel controller(235) and a radio frequency transceiver unit(250). An antenna array(255) transmits forward channel signals from the radio frequency transceiver unit(250) to mobile stations in a service area where a base station(101) is providing a service. The radio frequency transceiver unit(250) includes an antenna selection unit for selecting one of different antennas of the antenna array(255). A radio link protocol controller(260) includes a circuit for monitoring and controlling a version of a radio link protocol used by the base station transceiver controller(225) to synchronize signals transmitted between the base station(101) and the mobile stations including a mobile station. A timer(265) counts an elapsed time between a time point when the radio link protocol controller(260) renders to base station(101) to output a synchronization frame and a time point when the base station(101) receives a response of a mobile station corresponding to the synchronization frame.
