PURPOSE:To make a speed change action period appropriate by altering an engine output to ease a speed change shock in the predicted and set shift-up and shift-down action periods. CONSTITUTION:A period of time for the shift-up action to be performed in an automatic transmission gear is predicted and set by means of a first period setting means on the basis of the period from the starting time detected by a speed change action detecting means to the terminating time predicted on the basis of the engine speed detected by an engine speed detecting means. On the other hand, a period of time required for performing the shift-down action is predictively set by means of a second period setting means on the basis of the time period elapsing from the starting time detected by the speed change action detecting means. The period for controlling the engine output to be altered such as to reduce speed change shock is appropriately corresponded to the period for the actual speed change action by an engine output control means.
