The method involves electrically loading the battery. A current profile (I(t)) or a power profile is provided as function of time (t), which is actually or hypothetically applied to the battery. The voltage (U(t)) of the battery is determined or calculated. The battery is assigned a 'state of health' (SOH), which is obtained from the difference between the lowest (Umin) or highest voltage during the loading and a voltage limit (U1). The voltage limit is lowest or highest allowed voltage at any time.
