PURPOSE: A UART(Universal Asynchronous Receiver and Transmitter) interface device and method is provided to selectively match a plurality of circuit boards to one UART interface part through a backplane by connecting the circuit boards to the backplane and selecting a specific board using a port selection command. CONSTITUTION: A UART interface device is composed of a plurality of circuit boards(100-1-100-(n+1)), a backplane(200), and a UART interface part(300). The backplane(200) has the slots into which the circuit boards(100-1-100-(n+1)) are inserted. The UART interface part(300) is interfaced with the circuit boards(100-1-100-(n+1)) through the backplane(200) in a one-to-one ratio. Each circuit board(100-1-100-(n+1)) is comprised of a UART RS-232C interface part(110) matched with the UART interface part(300) and a CPU(120) controlling the operations of its associated circuit board.
