PURPOSE: A mechanism of belt type continuously variable transmission improves the durability of a belt, the fuel economy and the power transmission of a vehicle by preventing the slip of the belt by the simple structure thereof. CONSTITUTION: A variable pulley(22) and a driven shaft(24) of a secondary pulley(4) are engaged without mutual rotational interference. If impact torque is inputted from the leading end of a boss portion(30) of the variable pulley(22) and the driven shaft(24), a thrust generating member(32) applies longitudinal thrust to the variable pulley(22). Thus, if slip is generated between a belt(6) and the secondary pulley(4) on the transmission of outside impact torque through the driven shaft(24), the tension of the belt(6) is adjusted by the movement of the variable pulley(22) toward a fixed pulley(20) by a simple structure. Therefore, the slip of the belt(6) is prevented, thereby improving the durability and power transmission of the belt(6).
