PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To control the processing time of a reproduction side, in the case of coding multi-channel voice signals with a variable compression ratio. SOLUTION: Prediction circuits 13D1, 13D2, 15D1-15D4 and buffer selectors 14D1, 14D2, 16D1-16D4 process six-channel voice signals by predictive coding. According to the amount of predictive coding data in each channel, a DTS generator 17 generates decoding time stamp information showing the timing for reading compressed data in an input buffer 22a of a decoding side, and a formatting circuit 19 formats it into a packet header with decoding time stamp information and a packet with user data containing the compressed data. |
