PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve working efficiency, and to reduce any operation miss by dealing both the file of a client and the file of a server between machines which are provided with file systems whose concepts are different. SOLUTION: This distributed file system is provided with a hierarchical information 202 for operating convenient designation for virtually treating the file of a server as the file of a client, and for defining the hierarchical structure of the convenient mutual designations and corresponding information 201 for describing the corresponding relation of the convenient designation with an actual file 209 of the server. Also, this distributed file system is provided with a display mechanism 203 for displaying the information of the files by referring to the corresponding information 201 and the hierarchical mechanism 202, an input accepting mechanism 204 for accepting the same operation as that of the file system of the client for the file of the server, and an operation converting mechanism 205 for converting the operation into an operation corresponding to the file system of the server.
