The invention concerns a method and device for galvanizing plate-shaped products (4), in particular printed boards, in horizontal continuous plants through which the products pass in any order. Circulating contacting means are used to connect a bath current source electrically via slide rails to the product to be treated. Sensors detect the beginning and end of each individual product when it enters the galvanizing plant and determine the conveying speed of the product. The sensors (24) deliver sensor signals to a control system which establishes whether or not the contacting means find a product to be treated at the gripping point. The contacting means are connected to the bath current source electrically and with low impedance, in the galvanic sense, only when a product to be treated is in the contact region of the contacting means.
