PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a locking mechanism for a rotary shaft, which can be fixed readily to an electrical component having a rotary shaft, such as a conventional rotary switch, a variable resistor or the like so as to readily exert a locking function. SOLUTION: A locking mechanism consists of a support 1, having a rotary shaft through-hole 1A easy to be inserted and a locking recess 1B for locking the rotation of the shaft 6A, a handle 2 having a rotary shaft receiver 2A for inserting the portion of the shaft 6A, a spring receiver 2C for accommodating a coil spring 4, which is punched in the direction crossing the axial direction of the receiver 2A and a push-button receiver 2D which is connected to the receiver 2C and formed at the circumferential surface, and a push button 3 having a locking protrusion 3B for locking rotation of the shaft 6A, while being engaged with a guide pin 3A, which is to be inserted to the receiver 2C and the locking recess 1B provided on the support 1. The push button 3 is incorporated in the receiver 2D and can be pressed in and out against the elastic force of the spring 4.
