PURPOSE: A method for preparing solid electrolyte for a molten steel oxygen sensor and a solid electrolyte prepared by the method are provided to be capable of being repeatedly used by coating fused silica on a surface of solid electrolyte sintered body. CONSTITUTION: First, conventional SiCO-i-C3H7 silica sol solution is coated on a surface of a solid electrolyte using a sol-gel method, That is, silica having of 10-30 micrometer is coated on the surface of the solid electrolyte by drying under the temperature 30-80°C and baking under the temperature of 600-800°C. In addition, the fused silica may be coated on the solid electrolyte using a plasma spray method. In the method, plasma generated from a cathode by hot ion emission from inert gas is used. That, the solid electrolyte is cleaned and then silica powder is input to plasma salt under the atmosphere that oxygen of 2 wt% is added to Ar atmosphere to form silica coating of 10-30 micrometer thickness on the solid electrolyte.
