In order to produce two containers simultaneously, forming mandrels, mounted on a rotatable wheel, are grouped in pairs which cooperate with pairs of forming apparatus at stations around the wheel. In the form shown, a strip of material 4, divided longitudinally by a knife 5 and severed transversely by knife 6, is wrapped and seamed in tubular form about each of pair of mandrels 2 at a station A. At station B the ends of the tube are folded and sealed, and at the following station, C, outer covers, fed from a magazine 10, are folded and longitudinally seamed around the tubes. Apparatus at further stations D, E, F seals the bottoms of the outer covers and presses the bottoms flat. Finally, at station G, the completed containers are discharged on to twin conveyers for transport to a filling station 14, and a sealing station. |
