PURPOSE: A defrost apparatus for refrigerator evaporator is provided to reduce power consumption by utilizing heat generated from the components installed in the machinery chamber, and achieve an improved heat exchange efficiency by allowing for a smooth refrigerant flow. CONSTITUTION: A defrost apparatus comprises a circulation duct(50) for guiding the heat generated in a machinery chamber(40) to the space where an evaporator(30) is arranged; a circulation fan(55) for selectively transferring the heat from the machinery chamber to the space where the evaporator is arranged; a drain path(46) for drainage of the defrost water generated from the evaporator by the heat transferred from the machinery chamber, into the machinery chamber; and an opening/shutting member(60) operated by a motor so as to open/shut an inlet opening and an outlet opening(35i) of a shroud(35). Thus, defrost operation for the evaporator is performed by utilizing the heat generated from the machinery chamber, rather than by installing a heater to the evaporator.
