PURPOSE: To provide a game machine, such as a bingo game machine, with enhanced amusement to which a plurality of players can participate, and a control method for the game machine. CONSTITUTION: The game machine is provided with a card generating portion 411 that generated a plurality of pieces of matrix information associated with code matrices obtained by placing a plurality of different codes in small regions arranged in a matrix, respectively, and an effective region setting portion 412 that takes specified small regions as effective regions, in which the codes placed in these small regions are treated as effective codes regardless of whether or not the codes are effective codes. Thereby effective regions provided with distinctive features are individually set for a plurality of pieces of matrix information generated by the card generating portion.
