PURPOSE: A chemiluminescent assay is provided, in which the proportionality between the enzyme concentration and the intensity of the emitted chemiluminescence is increased. CONSTITUTION: A chemiluminescent assay comprising subjecting a chemiluminescent substrate to an enzyme reaction in the presence of the enzyme carrying out the enzyme reaction, a chemiluminescence enhancer and a chemiluminescence intensity-adjusting agent; and measuring resulting chemiluminescence from reaction product. Wherein R represents C8-C22 alkyl; R, R and R independently represent C1-C6 alkyl or C7-C12 aralkyl; and X represents halogen. And chemiluminescence intensity-adjusting agent is at least one selected from the group consisting of myristyltrimethylammonium bromide, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, lauryltrimethylammonium bromide, stearyltrimethylammonium bromide, myristyltrimethylammonium chloride and benzyldimethylmyristylammonium chloride.
