PURPOSE: An accelerator pedal facilitates controlling the length of a cable connecting between an accelerator pedal and a throttle valve and also makes possible pushing the pedal to the end even when the cable is expanded. CONSTITUTION: An accelerator pedal comprises a rod(1), a spring(2) and a tensioning device. The tensioning device mounted for connecting between the spring(2) and a cable(54) has a flexible band(4) and a draw plate(6). When the accelerator pedal(51) is pushed, the flexible band(4) is drawn and then the cable(54) connected with the flexible band(4) is drawn, thereby actuating a throttle valve(53) and operating acceleration mode. If the cable(54) is expanded when the draw plate(6) is not engaged with the flexible band(4), the length of the cable(54) drawn by the draw plate(6) and the flexible band(4) keeps to be constant because the spring draws the cable(54). Thus, making the length of the cable(54) constant prevents the cable(54) from being drawn to the end when the accelerator pedal is pushed.
