PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To access further meta-data on recorded material by using recorded meta-data. SOLUTION: Meta-data are recorded in the user bit of a time code in a video signal recording medium such as a tape-shaped recording medium. The meta-data desirably includes a unique material identifier (Unique Material Identifier: UMID). The UMID functions as a link between minimum meta-data recorded on the tape-shaped recording medium and more extended meta-data stored together with the UMID in an independent database.
