PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable material which is free from a residual color because of a heat decolorable dye excellent in heat decolorability, forming an image having high sharpness and high stability in storage, excellent in shelf stability particularly at high humidity, less liable to contaminate and deteriorate a heat roller in development and excellent in stability in long-term running and a method for heat-developing the heat developable material. SOLUTION: In the heat developable material with constituent layers including a photosensitive layer containing photosensitive silver halide grains, an organic silver salt and a reducing agent on at least one face of the support an acid anhydride and a heat decolorable dye are contained in at least one of the constituent layers.
