PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a communication method and a communication system, where the security of communication can be enhanced between a mobile information terminal and a server containing the requested contents. SOLUTION: A mobile information terminal 107 is connected to a gateway 204, using a telephone network and can make communication with a conventional WTA server 103 or a WTA server 203 of this invention via the gateway 204. This invention adopts a WSP, in order to secure the security of communication and the communication between the gateway 204 and the WTA server 203 of this embodiment is tunnel-processed. In the case of conducting communication with the conventional type of WTA server 103, since data encrypted by the gateway 204 are decoded and then encrypted by other form, the gateway 204 has a problem from the standpoint of communication security, but for the communication with the WTA server 203 of this invention there is no such problem as this. To which type a WTA server belongs can be checked, by retrieving a routing table 213 of a routing decision section 212.
