PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To permit the accurate recording even though a recording head is mounted on a movable part of a head driving device and also to facilitate the tracking even though the track width is reduced. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a head driving means mounted with at least one set or more heads so as to be adjustable in the direction of height while constituting of a set with two head having opposite azimuth angles each other. In the state the tape-like recording medium is stopped, 1st track is recorded by one head out of one set of heads, and 2nd track is recorded by the other head so as to overlap with the 1st track, then the 1st track is reproduced by the one head, and the height of the other head is adjusted by this reproduction output, then the recording of the 2nd track and the reproducing of the 1st track are carried out till the height of the other head coincides with the height of the one head.
