PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a brake system in which a constant brake force can be sustained regardless of variation of the rotational speed by controlling tension of a machine for winding an elongated matter, e.g. a yarn, a tape or a wire, and the winding length (the amount of yarn) can be measured. SOLUTION: In the brake system for applying a brake force when a rotary shaft 1 is rotated externally, a magnet 6 magnetized alternately with N and S in the circumferential direction is bonded to the rotary shaft along with a yoke 7 of magnetic body through an air gap 8. A coreless stator winding 10 is disposed in the air gap between the yoke and the magnet, and a current controller 11 for controlling the current to a specified level is connected between the terminals of the stator windings. When the rotary shaft is rotated externally, a voltage is induced in the stator winding and a current flows through the current controller to apply a brake force onto the rotary shaft.
