PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a multimedia material retrieving device with which retrieval is enabled by using the multimedia materials of a kind different from the multimedia materials of a retrieval object as a retrieval key. SOLUTION: A feature peculiar to a video scene being multimedia material is extracted from the retrieval key inputted to a retrieval key input means 1 by a video feature extracting means 21. The extracted feature is converted to a common feature description which does not depend on the kind of multimedia materials by a feature description converting means 22. The converted feature description is converted again to a feature description peculiar to the music being the multimedia materials of the retrieval object by a feature description converting means 33. The feature description converted again is compared with a feature extracted from a music data base 4 of the retrieval object and, on the basis of similarity, the retrieved solution is outputted.
