ARTERIAL FILTER WITH ASPIRATION AND METHODS OF USE

A filter (10) comprising a porous material is arranged in a generally conical shape having an expandable base (11) and a vertex (12). A reservoir tip (15) is located at the vertex (12) for collecting filtered embolic material. The tip (15) communicates with a distal port (26) and lumen of an aspiration tube (20) for removing embolic material under vacuum. A vessel occluding device (60) comprising a non-permeable material having an expandable conical shape and communicating with an aspiration tube (20) is also disclosed. Methods of using the filter and occluding devices for protecting a patient from embolization during cardiovascular procedures are described.
