A projector (100) can be easily set up and adjusted. In accordance with a projection condition inputted into a microcomputer via a remote controller, the microcomputer (5) selects an optimum projection lens by referring to correlation data showing a relation among a projection lens, a projection display size, and an optimum projection distance. The correlation data is stored in a projection condition preset memory (6). Then, the microcomputer (5) has a screen indicate an optimum projection lens and projection distance that satisfy the inputted projection condition. A user mounts the optimum projection lens on the projector and sets up the projector so that the optim um projection distance is secured. The microcomputer (5) calculates the amounts of zoom and focus adjustments to be made to the projection lens with referen ce to the correlation data so as to attain the projection display size. In accordance with the calculated amounts of zoom and focus adjustments, the microcomputer (5) automatically drives the projection lens via a zoom drivin g unit and a focus driving unit.
