The spring play apparatus has a screw spring between a seat for tipping the seat, a rotary bearing with a rotary axis and drive for rotating the seat by a user. The screw spring is non-rotatively connected with the base. The rotary axis even during tipping runs vertically to the seat. The rotary bearing is activated by a gear (11) acting selectively in the one or the other rotary direction. The rotary direction is selectable by the user. The rotary bearing has an indicator which after selection of the rotary direction makes it known acoustically. The gear is in engagement with a cone wheel (14), which locates non-rotatively on the under side of a holding plate (4), to which the upper end of the screw spring (1) is fixed. The holding plate and the cone wheel are penetrated by a hollow shaft (22), which is non-rotatively connected with the seat (5).
